Do you struggle when you have to talk about yourself because your mother (or someone else) told you never to brag? Is this hurting you when you interview?
Here’s a quick tip that will work for you:
Quote what someone else says about you that’s positive.
For instance,
“my last boss said . . . ”
” in my last performance appraisal I was rated . . .”
” here’s what a client wrote to my supervisor about me . . . ”
Remember that if you’re reporting factually what a third party has said about you, you’re just being informative and truthful. Go looking in your files (or ask people who know you well) so you’re ready to describe yourself through someone else’s eyes.
Do this and watch your bragging hangup disappear instantly.
