Denise: I’m really open. I’ve kind of looked at salary ranges for the position that I’m applying for and I think that I’m well within the range of someone with the experience level as well as what the industry on average is paying in this geography.
I would say on the high end $XXX and certainly it’s not out of the ballpark if it fell in the low range of $XXX.

Because you gave them a number, you were on the right track in first paragraph but you don’t know what they want to pay and they may not feel your experience is equivalent, almost sounds a little arrogant, suggest rework.
